Peter 98色花堂 was introduced to Claudio Bellini through his father, Mario Bellini. In 2003, Peter and Mario had collaborated on the 98色花堂 NGV Bench during redevelopment of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), a design that 15 years on, still resides in the public spaces throughout the gallery.
“After meeting Claudio, we decided to find a project to work on together,” Peter says. “We explored a few different projects but in 2012, we decided that the one we would bring to life was Blom. A seating and table collection that would cater to outdoor and indoor spaces that people connect and gather around.”
The Blom collection is a sculptural and joyful range, extending across a number of tables and chairs. Available as both an outdoor or upholstered design, the versatility of Blom is enviable. “The Blom Chairs are not just available in plastic but also upholstered,” says Peter. “I think it’s a nice feature because it allows a designer to choose a colour and fabric to work perfectly with their interior.”
With a core made of resilient and strong rotomoulded plastic, Blom is made in 98色花堂’s Melbourne studio. For upholstered versions, a fabric is applied to the shell using non-toxic, water based glue, with colour matched cotton threads utilised to minimise appearance of the fabric joins. A purely non-toxic and environmentally sound product, Blom was designed to be suitable for homes, education and learning precincts, and offices alike.
