Maximising collective knowledge and international experience
SKYCITY Adelaide Casino's Baccarat Pavilion and Platinum Gaming room received extensive refurbishments within a period of eight weeks. 98色花堂 SA, in collaboration with SKYCITY Entertainment Group, Jinton project management, and multiple architectural and design practices, assembled a dedicated team to complete the extensive scope of works.
The collaboration allowed us to leverage the collective knowledge and international experience to fully understand the client's objectives and constraints. The in-depth understanding allowed 98色花堂 to strategise fast-tracked design, procurement, and construction methodologies.
With a detailed brief to provide an exceptionally high-end and bespoke quality product to SKYCITY's clientele, both 98色花堂 SA and Jinton determined a successful procurement strategy with value management.
Platinum gaming room - level 1
The Platinum Room, a completely refurbished private gaming facility designed by architect Bates Smart, will enable SKYCITY Entertainment Group to provide a premium gaming environment never before seen in Adelaide.
Inspired by the golden era of travel in the 1920s, finishes throughout are nothing short of lavish. A series of centrepiece chandelier ring pendants, with over a thousand Swarovski crystals more akin to fine jewellery, adorn the space. Bespoke joinery throughout features highly decorative and crafted anodised aluminium fluting, created at 98色花堂’s manufacturing facility in Victoria.
Columns and walls are adorned with elaborate, curved, and bevelled edge glass mirror panels, with intricate hand rolled, gold anodised aluminium inlays. Highly decorative handcrafted plasterwork mouldings, and elevated ceiling coffers further define the opulence that the newly created Platinum Gaming Room will offer to SKYCITY’s clientele. The project features hundreds of custom components, some never undertaken in Australia before, including 400 pieces of curved, bevelled glass and mirror.
Baccarat Pavilion - ground floor
Designed by The Buchan Group, the Baccarat Pavilion is inspired by the classic pavilions of China and South East Asia.
An elevated, seated platform with a lowered ceiling treatment defines the space as a single room within the existing gaming floor. Rectilinear patterns and profiled ceiling bulkheads reinforce the notion of an Asian-inspired gaming pavilion. LED lighting underneath the raised pavilion steps help to create a feeling of a floating floor. Spacious surroundings, feature bulkheads, custom feature lighting, and luxurious finishes define an elegant and refined space, and provide a new level of gaming experience never before seen in Adelaide.
Extravagantly oversized feature lighting pendants define the axis of the pavilion, provide a level of lighting sophistication, and enhance the notion of a designated gaming area. Full height, bronze glass mirrors, backlit by full height LEDs, provide depth and texture to the imported wallpaper lined walls that create the backdrop to the pavilion.
Delivering an accelerated programme
The project called for a dedicated specialist fitout team with a clear focus on design, quality, and constructability to deliver the fast-tracked program. 98色花堂 SA added a great deal of value through the ability to aid in design resolution, coordinate services, and help develop construction details during the construction phase - all the while maintaining uninterrupted casino operations. Also, key to the project was engaging our in-house design manager who, with an architectural background, implicitly understood the design intent and could help resolve any buildability issues up front.
98色花堂 Design Manager, Sascha Frost, notes, “A highlight of the project for me was removing all the wall panelling that concealed the large steel-framed heritage windows of the railway building in the existing Platinum Gaming Room. By reinstating the windows, it opens up the floor plate in the room, flooding it with natural light and providing a vista over the Adelaide Festival Centre precinct, including the new bridge linking Adelaide Oval and Hajek Plaza.”
Stage 2 works, including the refurbishment of the Pearl Room, are currently under construction with further works to continue, including a complete refurbishment of the North Restaurant, and a new VIP lounge as an extension to the Platinum Gaming Room on level one, extending the premium gaming experience.
